Different methods to break out stucco
Howdy guys and gals, on this home the contractor used a circular saw to cut or score through the stucco. He adjusted his blade so it only went about a quarter inch through the original stucco. He then used an air chisel to break of the remaining stucco so that the paper and wire were left intact. Thereby giving us enough paper to tie in properly (to waterproof) and enough wire for the purpose of what we call a (overlap tie in) the plastering industry. When you tie (or overlap) one wire to another, this adds structural strength and will help with any cold joints. (A cold joint is where the there is no wire touching) This overlapping of the wire minimizes cracking with stucco.
