Together, our family and I have unconsciously created and contributed the most comprehensive encyclopedia of Stucco and Plastering videos ever produced online globally for your inspiration, entertainment, and education.
Since I get asked about bonding agents often, let me explain, as a rule I use Larson’s Weld-Crete as it has been sold at plastering years for over 40 years, Thus has stood the test of time.
It’s blue in color plus other benefits, like more emulsifiers which act like as binding agents? Plus I can see if we missed a spot because of color.
You can use Quikrete or sakrete bonding agents, also. These are sold at all the big hardware stores such as Lowes or Home Depot.
Does a stucco patch need to be primed before painting? Yes,
Does it need a bonding agent before it can adhere to a painted surface, Yes.
Are bonding agents the same as primers? No.
As the video shows both Quikrete, “shown” and Sakrete too, “Not shown” are both clear, this is okay. Both are just as good or acceptable to use.
FYI, the bonding agents usually say Bonds Concrete to Concrete.
This is their main purpose but for plastering contractors like your’s truly we use it so that any new stucco will adhere to a painted surface.
Never, and I mean never add a bonding agent into stucco or it’s becomes useless and the stucco will separate from less than year to 5, always!
Lastly a bonding agent for stucco is not a primer used for painting.
They have two different reasons.
I mention this fact, as many folks say we already primed it for your convenience, I have to respond with we will apply a bonding agent over the primer as stucco does not adhere to paint or primer.
Cheers,
