How to plaster a spiral staircase ceiling.

First, we covered everything as the tile floor was finished.
Then attached the 3.4 Diamond metal lath for this ceiling, as this lath is easily manipulated or contoured and is the best lath available for ornamental work and flat or contoured surfaces, and used as a reinforcing underlay for spray-applied fireproofing.
The small holes allow the plaster to mushroom above the metal lath, thus adhering it for life.

Jason, my son, plasterer, and cameraman, has plastered at least ten in just the last year of these fancy staircases and finished them with concrete plaster, that’s stucco. And some with just joint compounds. Too bad he’s unable to plaster and film himself.

We feel material knowledge is number one, and applications are secondary, as no matter how well you can tape or plaster, choosing the wrong material, you’ll be spinning your wheels.
