This method of using a fiberboard went out of style in the 1950s, right after they stopped using line wire to prevent so much stucco loss between the studs or what we call in the field.
This method of using any type of soft board was far worse than the line wire method, as the nails or staples would puncture the soft drywall or fiberboard, creating leaks throughout many homes.
Then came Paperback stucco netting, which was interwoven through the paper.
Fortunately, from 1975 to 1980, they enacted a new code that walls were to have plywood sheathing. Yea!
