Stucco Weight, stucco in buckets.
As we are often asked how heavy stucco is on a hawk or trowel, some ask if it is better to carry it with a hod or in buckets.
Jay brought his scale to find out the bucket was filled to about 80 percent and weighed about 70 pounds. Now, he figured we needed about 20 buckets, which would be roughly 10 full hods.
If you carry a lot of buckets of anything, you will tweak your spine or back, as it’s not normal.
Now a hod for stucco or bricks is the way to go as a hod sit on the
Trapezius Muscle. Thus, you can get a good leg workout instead of pulling your shoulder joints out of alignment.
Jason, as a rule, usually carries all the stucco, especially up ladders or steep hills.
Imagine carrying hods up ladders for 8 hours a day to keep two to three men working, which meant about a hundred hods.
I used to do it back in the day, but I’m no longer a spring chicken. This fine art has transferred down to Jasson, who actually does more of the grueling work. I just spread one hawk at a time—it’s kind of like walking, one step at a time.

Tip, folks: There’s no such thing as doing plaster by yourself. It takes two, one to mix and the other to spread. Teamwork, brothers.
