How to finish a small stucco DIY patch job.
Patching or repairing holes in your walls, DIY patchwork.

How to finish stucco on a small DIY patch job.
Howdy, all, the homeowner who tried to patch this would have been able to if he understood the main principle behind applying stucco.
The stucco netting should be in the center middle of the closed stucco hole!
Keep in mind we are seasoned plastering contractors, and this one main and most crucial factor has beaten us up more times than any other while plastering.
Thus we were not surprised to see it yet again.
We were 5 feet from the Patch when Jason, my son, said his wire was too flat, thus almost useless.
Little wonder the stucco would not stay, stick or adhere.

FYI, there are too many wires or stucco netting one can use to mention here. The idea is to not attach it too flat but in the center of the depth. This way, the stucco can go behind, and the stucco netting also holds the excess weight from failing.

Also, when I say, “take the trowel on edge,” this is done to make the stucco sandy. As a result, the air or oxygen penetrates it faster. Thus the newly applied stucco drys faster.
If I or anyone steel trowels it, the new stucco is sort of sealed. This does not allow air/oxygen into the stucco. This makes it, so the stucco takes twice as long to dry.

Also, if a basecoat is already applied, this will suck the moisture from the new stucco, causing the new stucco to dry out faster.

You can say the basecoat is always thirsty.

Now you know.
